Love is a dangerous thing to play with...

Apropos a conversation I had today about radio as an oracle*, I was wondering if y'all out there have had any experiences along those lines.

* I'm referring to those moments where a song comes on the radio that is so right for a given situation/moment that you notice it and, in retrospect seemed to be foretelling the future.

Should one have the appropriate level of radio-foo, one can engage in radiomancy - the art of receiving inspiration and the answers to questions via the radio.

Decide what subject is on your mind.
Turn on your radio.
Listen to 2-5 seconds of any talking, and one line of any song.
Switch to next random channel.

If your radio-foo is good, you'll have an interesting result.

Hmm... I may have to test my radio-foo and try this. In the past, I've had several instances where the radio oracle has busted out the mojo seemingly all on its own, so it would be interesting to see what would result from actually trying to get a result.

Some people can hear the soundtrack of the world.

Mostly in tabletops, though, and the GM chooses that music.

The concept of a GM for my life sort of scares me.

I think the purpose of a lot of songs is to speak to the human experience in some way. The ability to listen to a song and go "I've been there, that's like me" is part of what makes it popular. It stands to reason then, that once in a while one will listen to a song when one is just about to be there.

Huh. That seems to make a good deal of sense, although on some levels, it would seem to me to be more comforting if there really were some universal spirit guiding the radio on your behalf. Not that these two thoughts are necessarily incompatible, mind you.

This sentiment pretty much sums up my thoughts on god :)
