If any of y'all out there are Linux users and could help me out with the install of a wireless air card, I'd be most appreciative. My work laptop is the first machine I've ever been exposed to linux on, and while I can generally find my way around, the finer points of getting external hardware to be recognized are currently beyond me. If you can spare some help, you'd have my gratitude and an IOU for drinks and dinner.

The details so far:
HP pavilion dv6000
AMD Turion 64x2 1.6GHz
1 gig of ram
32-bit operating system
running vista :( and fedora

following the install steps for the verizon usb wireless card install (which are woefully inadequate - basically just "put the cd in and run it") and instructions from Ken Kinders's site (http://kenkinder.com/evdo-pc5740/). We managed to get it working for the vista end of things, but Fedora doesn't seem to want to recognize it. It looks like it installs okay - running:

/etc/ppp/peers/1xevdo

we get:

ttyUSB1
115200
debug
noauth
defaultroute
usepeerdns
connect-delay 10000
user 6175194764@vzw3g.com
show-password
crtscts
lock
lcp-echo-failure 4
lcp-echo-interval 65535
connect '/usr/sbin/chat -v -t3 -f /etc/ppp/peers/1xevdo_chat'

But when we run:

/etc/ppp/peers/1xevdo_chat

We get:

# AT$QCMIPGETP "login" name used for MobileIP, which usually matches your MIN.
# AT+GSN ESN in hex
# AT+GMR firmware revision and build date.
# AT+CSQ first number indicates the signal strength above -109
# dBm (in
# 2 dBm increments). A value of 7 or higher (-95 dBm) can be
# considered adequate. 31 is the max. (Possible values in
# Audiovox PC5740 are 0, 7, 15, 23, 31.)
# AT+CDV=*22899 Update PRL. at+cdv=*22899 | OK | Lost carrier.

Help?

Taken from my love's journal here, I pass along this plea for help.

PLEASE READ AND PASS INFORMATION ALONG AS YOU SEE FIT.

Anyone who is reading this, please let me know if you or someone you know would be interested in adopting a cat. Not just any cat! A beautiful calico who is affectionate and well-socialized and extremely lonely at the moment.

The cat currently belongs to my brother and my sister-in-law, and they're getting rid of her because they just don't have the time to devote to her now that they have an infant. Please, if you know anyone who's looking to adopt a wonderful cat, let me know as soon as possible. I'm attempting to find her a good home before my sister-in-law does anything drastic. She's already confined the poor kitty to the bathroom for the past few weeks.

Questions, anything I've forgotten to detail - please ask here.

Please help. Thank you.

Anyone know where I can get about ten 18" femurs and maybe a couple of skulls and radiuses (radii? just what the hell is the plural of radius anyway?!?) and ulnas as well? All for under $65ish. Not that I'd need a circle of bone 15' in circumference any time soon. Nope, not me. But if I happened to just have the fixins lying around, they might come in handy 3 weekends from now. Oh, and before I get any "just get a shovel and visit your local cemetery" replies, one big thing is that these bones shouldn't be real. I have this aversion to touching actual dead things if I don't absolutley have to.

Yes, the irony of me playing a shaman in Madrigal has been pointed out to me.
